About Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Chinese Medicine is a time-tested, effective, and truly holistic system of medicine that can safely treat a wide range of conditions, without side effects. This is accomplished when the practitioner finds the root imbalance that is resulting in the patient’s condition, and then treats that root imbalance through acupuncture, herbs, and other modalities. In addition to correcting the underlying imbalance, regular acupuncture can greatly alleviate the resulting symptoms. Chinese Medicine also works wonderfully to prevent disease, and to promote general wellness and vitality. Thus, a person does not need to “have something wrong” in order to benefit from this elegant form of medicine.
While I treat a wide range of conditions, I specialize in treating mood disorders and women's health imbalances.
Chinese Medicine is comprised of five different healing modalities, or "branches". I use all of these branches in my practice:
Acupuncture: the insertion of single use, sterile needles into specific points to promote healing. Herbal Remedies: traditional Chinese herbal formulas prescribed in pill, powder, and extract form. In addition to traditional Chinese herbs, I am trained in, and will often prescribe, western herbs. Qigong: a gentle form of exercise that strengthens and moves the internal energy--the Qi-- of the body. Nutritional Consultation: individualized dietary recommendations and recipes are given based on the patient’s specific health concerns and body constitution. Bodywork: the use of specific tools, as in cupping and guasha, to promote circulation and reduce pain, as well as hands-on massage.
Location My office is located on a beautiful piece of land in Happy Valley, a rural region just outside of mid-town Santa Cruz. Many clients report feeling like their healing actually begins with the scenic drive to my office. As a healing practitioner, I feel grounded and strengthened by doing my work on this piece of land. I am grateful that my patients get to experience their healing process in such a peaceful and sacred space.
